What is SOGETUS SCHOOL?
“SOGETSU” is one of the Japanese flower arrangement styles and was founded by the late Sofu Teshigahara in 1927. His theory is summarized in the phrase “Creative Ikebana”. He believed the free spirit of the artist to be more important t than any forms of plants. Acting on his theories, he released Ikebana from the restrictions of forms, materials space and various other disciplines or rules, and thereby enabled it to become a contemporary art from. For this reason, Modern Ikebana today owes much to Sofu Teshigahara.

The present “Iemoto” (Grand master of Sogetsu School) is Akane Teshigahara. She became the Iemoto in 2001 and is being heralded as the new leader of the 21st century Ikebana world.
In Sogetsu, Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) features the idea that Ikebana may be arranged anytime, anywhere, by anyone, and with any material. There are rules but those rules are always flexible. The SOGETSU style aims always to be alive, using plants and flowers to express vividly the experiences of the present age.

CURRICULUM
The curriculum to the SOGETSU School was determined in 1983 to enable beginners all over the world to approach Ikebana effectively and easily and come to an understanding of it.
